Entry 1: Analysis print adv by Denotation, Connotation and Myth.

This is an exercise to show the understanding of semiotics. Semiotics is an invisible linguistic language which recognize by certain group/ people/ community. Semiotics also is a study of sign to understand the meaning.

Denotation can be mean “outside & surface” meaning as direct meaning. In malay, Denotation is “isi tersurat”.

Connotation can be mean “inside & analysis” meaning as hidden meaning. In malay, Connotation is “isi tersirat”.

Myth can be mean the ideological or political meaning of the thing.


Below is the chosen adv poster to define and analysis based on Denotation, Connotation and Myth.



Denotation 
Three different size of trees, silhouette of bear, three leaking balloon.

Connotation
Bear is one the endangered animals, trees represent their habitat, while leaking balloon means endangering. In this optical illusion by fused trees and bear's silhouette, it shows that the interconnection between wildlife and environment. The message of this poster is to create the awareness of protecting this group of endangered animals by saving their habitat, by planting tree, by their interconnection.

Myths 
An advertisement for awareness by using minimized illustration to form optical illusion is not only denoting bear, trees and balloon, but also attaching the connotations of the interconnecting relationship between bear and trees. A mythic meaning is both are interconnect each other to balance the ecosystem and prevent extinction.
